The Kids Are Alright…

Take things seriously, because soon you will almost be 35 and struggling because you thought you had everything figured out. On the plus side, you have found your way through your trauma and you’ll have a dog that makes every day worth living for. Some days will be tough, but just try and keep a level head and maybe someday – things will turn out right.

If you had to change your name, what would your new name be?

My full name is Alyssa, so if I had to change that I would probably go with Alexis or Alex – since it can still be shortened to Al and wouldn’t be much different. Plus – I have always liked that name.

How do you know when it’s time to unplug? What do you do to make it happen?

When I get antsy not having some sort of electronic in my hand, I know it’s time to unplug. It is hard to completely unplug given I work on a computer but I e been trying to read more when I’m there. When I’m at home I either snuggle my dog or work on fixing my bike.

Do you remember life before the internet?

Yes, I used to go outside and play and sometimes would play on my game boy as a kid. Honestly – social media has ruined us a lot as a society and technology as well. While there are benefits to both, the concept of going outside and just enjoying nature and everything around you has gone away.

Luckily I have a dog who gets me out of the house and sometimes I’m sure to keep my phone away so I can just spend time with her and nature. It can be hard though, especially when you’re so used to having a phone in your pocket these days that it feels weird to not have one in your hands.

What does “having it all” mean to you? Is it attainable?

Having it all means to feel as though I am happy and in a positive place both mentally and financially. I believe that I can achieve mental stability, but finances have been tough for me – especially since COVID and things just keep piling up. I am trying to figure matters out, but they seem so out of reach right now. I hope one day it can be attainable and I can give myself and my dog a better life.
